City Council To Reconsider Funding Vote On Crossroads

City Council To Reconsider Funding Vote On Crossroads

The Omaha City Council will reconsider its recent vote to place the $50 million Crossroads Village bond issue on the May ballot.  The money would have been used for infrastructure, including sewers, sidewalks and streets.

If the council votes to rescind during their meeting on Tuesday, the bond question would be removed from the ballot by the Douglas County Election Commisioner.

The $400 million Crossroads project will convert the aging mall into Crossroads Village, featuring retailers, luxury loft residential units, office space and hotel.

According to Mayor Jean Stothert, the project has been getting some push-back from taxpayers.  “I support the Crossroads Village development, but we need to re-evaluate the financing plan. We’re listening to taxpayer concerns about the bonds and I share their concerns. We need more information and more time to guarantee the taxpayers will be protected before we move ahead.”
