Council Bluffs Standoff Is Over; Man And Woman Taken To Hospital

Council Bluffs Police and SWAT team members stormed a home in which a man was barricaded near 34th and Avenue B Tuesday morning.

Lt. Dan Flores said they were called to the home just after 8:00 a.m. on a domestic violence call with shots fired.

Neighbors say the man who was identified as the injured woman's husband, was taken away on a gurney and taken to the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha in critical condition.

Earlier, eyewitness Alex Dolezal told Newsradio 1110 KFAB, that the woman shot in the front yard, is the mother of his friend.  She was rushed to the hospital in extremely critical condition.  Dolezal said the couple had been fighting and that she had thrown a pair of scissors that stuck in his back.

Lt. Flores says it doesn't appear SWAT team members fired any shots.  It's believed the man shot himself and was not wounded by SWAT team members.

The Omaha emergency response unit was called in to assist.
