The fire broke out around 1:30 in a first floor apartment near 97th and Maple. A woman living in the apartment managed to get out safely.
Acting Battalion Chief Chris Newton says there was smoke and flames coming from the unit when they arrived. The flames were quickly extinguished. Smoke from the fire damaged six other units on the second and third floor.
No one was injured. Firefighters rescued a Pug and a cat from the apartment building. The American Red Cross will help those affected by the fire. The cause of the fire is not yet known.
