Omaha's mayor has released more details of the proposed contract that fell apart with the city's former fire chief.
Mayor Jean Stothert's office released a letter Tuesday that says Fire Chief Mike McDonnell's last-minute demands included adding language to note that her public comments on a paramedic training were not directed toward McDonnell or his performance as fire chief.
Stothert said McDonnell asked for additions that were "outside of the scope of the (tentative deal) and we believe inappropriate for inclusion.'' McDonnell disagreed.
The tentative deal also would have stopped significant fire department cuts over the next year.
McDonnell remains on paid administrative leave, but Stothert is likely seeking legal grounds to fire him. Battalion Chief Bernard Kanger is serving as interim chief.
