Omaha Firefighters Respond To Bogus Ice Rescue Call

Omaha Firefigthers were fearing the worst when they got a call Friday morning that two people were in the water at a frozen pond near the Knolls Golf Course just north of 114th and West Maple.

Acting Battalion Chief Dan Olsen says they quickly determined that the man who called 911 made the story up.  One of the people reportedly in the water was more than 100 miles from Omaha.

Olsen says their ice rescue and dive teams suited up and were ready to go into the icy water.  The man who placed the call had been outside for quite sometime and had to be put in an ambulance to warm up.

Olsen says they considered using the false alarm to practice for an ice rescue.  But he says the water wasn't deep enough.
