The board says Megan Neiles-Brasch will handle many day-to-day legal and labor relations responsibilities for the district. She begins Oct. 23 and her annual salary will be $132,000.

Several board members have argued over the district's legal costs, which have been handled by outside lawyers for decades.

David Kramer, the board's current lead attorney from firm Baird Holm, says the move could actually increase expenses because the district will find more things that need in-house counsel.

Superintendent Mark Evans and school board President Justin Wayne say bringing more of the district's legal work in-house will save money in the long run.
