OPS, Millard Students Get A New Ride To School

The Omaha and Millard school districts have received the last of a new fleet of 434 propane-powered buses.

An open house and ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at Student Transportation of America's new bus-housing facility in south Omaha. The company also announced plans to construct a 15,000-square-foot facility in north Omaha.

CEO Denis Gallagher says it's the largest propane school bus fleet in the country, ahead of the Portland, Ore., and Los Angeles Unified school districts.

The buses will be quieter and more environmentally friendly, spewing 60 percent less carbon monoxide than traditional diesel-powered buses. Even taxpayers should notice a difference, as the buses will bring a fuel savings.
