Heavy smoke and flames greeted firefighters when they arrived at Monarch Fence on west 6th Street around 4:00 Friday afternoon.
Fire Chief Bill Bowes says one of the employees was inside when he heard a noise, and then saw heavy smoke and flames. He was able to run out of the building, but suffered minor burns to his hands.
Bowes says firefighters attacked the flames from the outside of the building because it was too dangerous inside.
Bowes says the metal building sustained very heavy damage, including the partial collapse of the roof and an interior wall. The State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating.
